Vinyl flooring is a resilient, functional, and beautiful flooring option that comes in two forms: vinyl composition tile and sheet vinyl. Which form should you choose when reflooring your Pasadena, Alexandria, or Silver Spring home?
Vinyl composition tile is often used in commercial and institutional applications. Tiles are applied to a smooth, leveled sub-floor using a specially formulated vinyl adhesive. Once in place, tiles are waxed and buffed. Vinyl tile is favored over other kinds of flooring materials in high-traffic areas because of its affordability, ease of maintenance, and durability. Vinyl tiles can be repeatedly refinished with chemical strippers and buffing equipment, or easily removed and replaced when damaged. Tiles can be cut and assembled into patterns and are available in a variety of colors and styles that very closely resemble wood, stone, terrazzo, and concrete.
Sheet vinyl is a layered construction sold in six- and 12-foot widths. Much like vinyl tiles, sheet vinyl is favored for its affordability, ease of maintenance, and durability. Sheet vinyl requires an expert's hand for installation and is used to create a seamless look. Like vinyl tiles, sheet vinyl can be applied over a variety of flat, smooth surfaces, including subfloors and concrete. Sheet vinyl can have felt or fiberglass flooring, while all sheet vinyl features a protective top coat, protective clear vinyl layer and printed vinyl design layer.
