Is Vacuuming a Better Way to Clean Your Maryland Floor?

Dust mopping and sweeping are the two typical ways homeowners in the Maryland area clean their hard floors throughout the home. But what about vacuuming the hard floor, such as hardwood flooring, tile and vinyl flooring? Can you safely use a vacuum on those floor coverings? Or will you damage the surface rather than clean it?

Most flooring manufacturers and distributors agree vacuuming hard floors can be a better method than dust mopping. Vacuuming cleans better and improves indoor air quality as well. Since the vacuum clean removes the dirt rather than releasing it back into the air as happens with a dust mop.

Surprisingly, vacuuming the hardwood, vinyl or tile floor you actually protect the surface. Removing the sand and grit dramatically reduces the likelihood of extraneously floor care in the coming years. This is especially true with hardwood floors as it reduces the needs of stripping and recoating the hardwood floors as often. Sand is perhaps the largest enemy of a hardwood floor, and unless it is removed, the damage will only continue to get worse.

The benefits of vacuuming are also seen when used on stone and ceramic floors throughout Northern Virginia as well. Often times, stone and ceramic floors as dirt tends to collect in the ridges and grout lines of textured floors. For ceramic tile floors, vacuuming in a diagonal path produces the best cleaning results.
