Keep Your Ceramic Tile Floor Looking Like New With These Tips

Every homeowner in the Montgomery County MD area wants their ceramic tile floors and grout to look like new, even after months or years of use. The key to keeping the ceramic tile and grout in tip-top shape is proper cleaning techniques using the right combination of tools and cleaning agents. Follow these tips to keep your ceramic floor in like-new condition.

  • Always keep the ceramic tile floor swept. Dirt sticks to the surface of ceramic tile - and even more so on textured ceramic tile surfaces - and keeping on top of sweeping will dislodge the dirt for easy removal. If you prefer, a vacuum cleaner can also be used to remove the dirt, but be sure the beater bar is turned off to avoid damaging or scratching the ceramic tile. Use the attachments on the vacuum cleaner to remove the dirt along the edges in the grout lines.
  • Keeping doormats in front of all entryways into the home is the next tip for keeping ceramic tile looking like new. The fine particles of dirt act as a sanding agent when walked on which will lead to surface scratches on the ceramic tile floor, causing the tiles to lose their shine. Eliminating as much dirt as possible is key to this tip.
  • Sweeping and vacuuming the ceramic tile floor can only go so far in removing the dirt, which is where mopping comes into play. Use a manufacturer-approved or recommended ceramic tile and grout cleaner to remove the fine residue that may be left-behind after sweeping or vacuuming. The mop should be damp though, rather than soaked.
  • In the event a heavy spill or sticky mess reaches your ceramic tile floor, using a soft brush with gentle scrubbing action should do the trick. This is especially true of textured ceramic tiles, since the texture holds-on to the mess that much harder. If the ceramic tile appears dull, it may require a thorough rinse with hot water and towel drying afterward.
