Cleaning Tips For Hardwood Floors

Hardwood floors are beautiful and can be tricky to keep in the pristine condition we all want to them to be in. A few cleaning tips can keep your hardwood floors looking beautiful in between professional cleanings and for years to come.

Although this seems obvious, sweeping the hardwood floor is the biggest factor in keeping it looking like new. Use a fine bristle broom and sweep often to keep the dirt and grime from becoming imbedded in the wood grain causing it to always appear dirty and worn.

Using a vacuum on the hardwood floors a couple of times each week will also remove hard-to-get dirt and sand. Although, always use a soft brush attachment to vacuum your hardwood floor to avoid scratching the surface.

Never use water to clean your hardwood floor. When spills happen - and they will - make sure you clean them up as quickly as possible with a soft towel or a wet/dry vacuum. Make sure the area is thoroughly dried to prevent damage to the hardwood floor.

Protect the surface and finish of your hardwood floor by using strategically placed area rugs or runners to prevent excess wear in particular areas. Providing the extra protection in hallways, entryways and other high-traffic areas will protect your hardwood floor.

Remove high heal or heavy shoes before walking on the hardwood floor. Some high heels can cause permanent damage to the surface of the hardwood floor by scratching, denting or scuffing it.

Always take caution when moving furniture or other objects across the hardwood floor. Instead of dragging or pushing the heavy objects, clean the floor first to remove any dirt or sand, then use furniture pads underneath the object to gently slide it across the floor.
